Das stille Örtchen

This series started  a couple of years ago with a pink thing on a field in the middle of nowhere, serving a construction site on the nearby Autobahn.

These pink versions kept popping up. Here is another one in Berlin in front of the "Luftschloss" Bauakademie. ...

Since then, I have been on the look-out for photogenic ones:

Königstein im Taunus - the town with the second highest per capita income  in Germany - has this version, which looks like provisional barracks, in the middle of the town square - not good.

In Berlin, I found this entrance to an "out of order"- place. Uughh.

Pretty with a view : in Sydney's Royal Botanic Garden

Provincetown, Cape Cod:

The best ones are in Britain:

This one on Oxford Street, London, is very pretty, but has the drawback of turning into an open-air-open-door-version if you stay too long.

But the prize for the the nicest "Stilles Örtchen" goes to this one in London's Hyde Park next to the lake - doesn't it look like a small palace?

The worst open-air-no-door-men-only-sidewalk version is shown in the third "Incredible India" blog post from March and I won't repeat it here, as it has drawn some odd remarks from my family. However, I have learnt meanwhile, that many NGOs from India and abroad are addressing this huge problem to find innovative solutions for villages without running water and sanitation, a problem not only of hygiene but also of safety for women.

Stille Örtchen ...
